On the way there

Surprisingly, this city has a direct connection to Amsterdam Centraal! There are other options, but they all require switching trains and thus are less attractive.

I departed on a 9:37 Intercity to Vlissingen, which on this weekend morning was not too busy. I hopped on board VIRM 8662, which hasn’t been converted to VIRMm yet, and has this lovely 2000s feel to it.

The day was sunny, with clear skies and fresh September air still feeling warm on your skin. But there was this whimsical feeling of autumn approaching — spots of yellow leaves here and there, with brilliant sparks of red, still waiting to ignite into something larger and fiery.

Cute houses at the outskirts of Leiden on the way

On the way, I passed through two underground stations — one in Den Haag and one in Delft. I hope to get to one of those one day.

The trip took 2 hours and 11 minutes; I had plenty of time to read.

Station Bergen op Zoom, spoor 1

The station

Well, the station building here is nothing much to talk about — a 1970s modernist, unimaginative glass cube with a kebab shop in it. The only interesting feature for me was the mosaics on the outside wall towards the city.
